Mangan off to a flyer!
Grand National winning trainer Jimmy Mangan produced a potentially smart human recruit to the jumping game at Cork today, when his daughter Jane Mangan steered 20/1 chance Jamie’s Darling to win the concluding Cork & Waterford Mares Point to Point Bumper, on the 17 year old's first racecourse ride.
Mangan Jnr displayed strength and timing beyond her years to produce the daughter of Old Vic, on the outer, to lead inside the final furlong, eventually scoring by three and a half lengths from Bingo Lady
Afterwards an over-the-moon Mangan stated “that is a fantastic result! Jane has won two point to points on Conna Castle but that was her first racecourse ride. She is a fifth year student in Fermoy, worked for Aidan O’Brien last summer and she will go back to Ballydoyle again this summer.”
“We didn’t overly fancy Jamie’s Darling but she will go out on grass now and should make a nice hurdler next season.”
Mangan Jnr is a sister of professional jump jockey Patrick Mangan.
