The Tom Mullins-trained Court Maid got going late in the novice chase at Fairyhouse when powering clear on the run-in to secure a cosy win.

David Mullins, recording a quick double, was content to hold the 15/8 favourite up towards the rear in the two-mile-five contest and she was a touch sticky jumping-wise early on.

The Court Cave filly was bumped along at stages from the fourth last but came back on the bridle turning for home.

She was sent up to challenge on the inner going to the last and hit top gear on the run-in to stretch clear for a nine-length win over Rapid Response

Court Maid was following up on her chase debut win at Galway in late July.

“I told David that these might be a bit slicker than she is, more experienced that her, and to maybe wait a bit with her which he did,” said Mullins senior.

“The all got racing six furlongs out and David decided no and came late. That was the deciding thing.

“I was happy enough with her jumping even though she was maybe a bit sketchy at a few.

“I was expecting her to win and she did. She wants three miles but doesn't want winter heavy so we'll see where we go from here.

“There is supposed to be a good program for novice mares so we'll test that now.

“I'm thrilled with her, she's well bred and is a great mare really as she's won seven now.

“I was delighted with her jumping, she was a bit sketchy compared to Galway, but I was happy enough with her.

“We'll find a mares novice and I'll definitely try not to come back in trip.”
