Rookie trainer Nicole McKenna registered her first winner at the Curragh today as Rattling Jewel under Wayne Lordan, poked his nose in front where it matters most to win the RTE Radio One Handicap by the narrowest of margins.
Rattling Jewel and In Salutem battled it out in the closing stages and passed the winning line as one, with the Judge eventually calling McKenna’s runner the ‘nose’ winner.
Dungannon, Co Tyrone based McKenna, in her second year with a license, is a step-daughter of Rattling Jewel’s previous trainer James Lambe and following today’s win stated “he ran well at Down Royal last week, and needed the extra furlong. It's great to have my first winner here on Derby weekend.
"I've 10 in training at the moment with another few young horses for point-to-points. The owner John O'Mahony is from Thurles, and I'd say he'd like to have a runner at Galway."
