- Magical Memoir gains his revenge
Magical Memoir gains his revenge
Magical Memoir gained revenge for his Galway demotion on August 28 in the Dawn Omega Milk 3YO Hurdle at Listowel today when providing trainer Jessica Harrington with the second leg of a double at the Kerry venue.
The decision of the Galway Stewards to demote Magical Memoir to second place (in favour of Days Ahead was a controversial one but the decision was subsequently upheld on appeal.
However, following today’s ‘rematch’ between the pair, form students, at least, have every reason to point out that Magical Memoir is, and possibly was, the better horse and may not have improved his position at Galway.
Taking into account jockeys’ claims and winners’ penalties from previous races, Magical Memoir was 3lbs ‘better-off’ than Days Ahead at Listowel today, but still won by a very cosy five and a half lengths.
Opinions will continue to differ on the Galway Stewards’ decision but, on paper, it can now be proven (for what its worth!) that Magical Memoirs is the better horse.
Harrington was not present for the win.
