Ex-Moyglare Stud-owned Magic Chegaga made a winning debut for new connections at the Curragh today landing the concluding Holden Plant Rentals Handicap for new trainer Tom Gibney and old acquaintance, jockey Oisin Orr.
Orr steered the daughter of Teofilo to win a Tipperary maiden for trainer Dermot Weld last October and having sold for €12,500 to current connections (Magic Lads Syndicate) in February, today held on well in the closing stages of the 1m1f race to beat runner-up Reverberation by half a length.
Afterwards Gibney stated “she was very well bought by Brian Duffy and we were delighted to have her from day one. She has a fantastic attitude and a lovely pedigree that we don’t normally get.
“We knew we had her fairly straight for today if she was good enough and she is very easy to do anything with.
“It was great getting Oisin as he’d won on her; he hadn’t ridden for me before but I said to him that you probably know this filly better than I do.
“She travelled everywhere and did exactly what we hoped she would do. She got every bit of that trip and might get a bit further.”
