Madhmoon looked a very smart prospect when making a winning debut for Kevin Prendergast at Leopardstown this evening.
Ballydoyle colt Sydney Opera House was sent off the 4/9 favourite for the mile maiden and jumped out to make the running.
The hotpot was tackled by Madhmoon passing the furlong pole and the Dawn Approach colt quickened impressively to lead in the closing stages, for Chris Hayes, pulling away for a two-and-three-quarter length victory.
“We've always thought he was a nice horse. You are always afraid of Aidan's but we thought he'd have to be something special to beat our fella today,” said Prendergast.
“He has good finishing speed and hopefully he can go on from here. That's as fast as he's ever gone in his life and hopefully he can repeat it a few times.
“We'll have to discuss plans now with his owner Sheikh Hamdan.”
