Madeira battles to nursery success
The Kevin Prendergast-trained Madeira Man proved game to land the opening nursery at Dundalk under Sam James.
The Verglas colt edged out at the furlong pole to get a gap, slightly hampering 6/4 favourite The Reaper and hit the front soon afterwards.
He kept on well in the closing stages to hold long-time leader Vastitas at bay by a neck, with The Reaper a length-and-three-quarters back in third.
"He was lugging in the whole way and I just tried to keep him out the best I could. He did it well when he got out," said James afterwards.
