Magnetic North bounced back to form in the first-time visor in the Sean Cleary Memorial Handicap at Roscommon.
It paid to be handy in this mile and a half assignment as the field got strung out. Cian MacRedmond had his mount tracking from an early stage after getting away well from stall 15.
The pair tanked into the lead from Anycity over two furlongs out and soon went for home.
Magnetic North was ridden to keep the gallop up in the final furlong and he did just that as he ground it out by a length and quarter at 16/1. Powersbomb came through for second at 14/1, a neck in front of Ivy Avenue (6/1). Machine Leaner completed the placings in fourth at 50/1.
“He's been a bit of a monkey and he let us down in Galway. We put a visor on him tonight as we know he has buckets of ability," trainer Ado McGuinness said.
“I was a little worried about the ground being too quick and we were drawn wide but I just told Cian to jump out and go forward, and not to give him a chance to think.
“He did it quite easily and I think he wants every yard of a mile-and-four. We did drop him back to a mile but I think he's better off in his comfort zone and being able to travel.
“He's been placed in premier handicaps before I got him and he has loads of ability. At least he got one tonight and we'll look for something similar.
“Cian gave him a super ride, he was very positive on him. He's good value for the 7lb and I'm lucky to have him.”
Magnetic North's last victory was in a premier handicap at Leopardstown for Sheila Lavery in July 2019.
