Mac Swiney (10s into 15/2) reversed course and distance form from 20 days back with 4/9 favourite Wembley in the opening Irish Stallion Farms EBF (C & G) Maiden at the Curragh.
Fifth on debut when Wembley was third behind his Ballydoyle stable companion, Hudson River, Mac Swiney came forward beautifully for the experience.
For trainer Jim Bolger and jockey Kevin Manning the New Approach colt was prominent and disputed the lead.
He was pushed along two furlongs out and led a furlong out.
Ridden and keeping on well inside the final furlong Mac Swiney accounted for Wembley by a length and a half with half a length to the staying on Colour Sergeant in third.
Una Manning, wife of the winning jockey and daughter of the trainer, said:- “The boss is delighted with him, he's his Derby horse. He's from the family of Parish Hall etc.
“He got a tap on the nose the last day from another jockey's stick and that was what caused him to duck.
“We're very happy with him. He hasn't decided yet what he will do with him going forward but obviously we'll keep himself and Poetic Flare apart as he doesn't believe in running two horses in the one race. He's a fine big horse.”
