Pipsy (3/1) gained a valuable blacktype success for owner Patrick Cosgrove today, as the Colin Keane-partnered Ger Lyons-trained filly landed Dundalk's Listed Irish Stallion Farms EBF Legacy Stakes.
Runner-up on debut to smart prospect King Cuan and a winner at the Curragh last month, Pipsy today raced keenly, led two furlongs out and scored by a length and a half from Alabama
Trainer Lyons reported “at the Curragh I said 'this one is getting quicker' so I nominated this race straight away to Patrick (Cosgrove). I said we'd have a look at this race and then put her away.
“She's only getting going at the back-end and I'm trying to get at least two runs into most of them.
“We knew after Cork that we had bumped into one (winner King Cuan) and he proved that afterwards. I liked what she did at the Curragh and she's pretty straight-forward at home.
“Colin said she has turned into a real sprinter.”
He added “the break will now come at a nice time and we'll let her wind down, let her grow up and mature. We'll look forward to her next year.
“It's cracking to get winning black-type for Patrick, who is an owner/breeder - that's what it's about for him.”
