Trainer Ger Lyons and Champion Jockey Colin Keane combined to win the Gowran Park (Fillies) Claiming Race at Gowran today as Zalzar gained a maiden success and failed to sell following the race.
The daughter of Zoffany made most of the running and in the end held the late challenge of Innamorare by three parts of a length.
Lyons later said “I was hoping that if she produced the same sort of run as she did in Bellewstown that she'd do that.
“I thought it looked a stronger race on paper but maybe not. She's good and tough and genuine. If somebody wants her she'll be a fun horse for Dundalk and if not sure we'll do more of the same.”
There were no claims for winner Zalzar but Lyons also revealed “the claimers have been good to us this year and if they haven't been claimed after the race they've been claimed at home.”
“These races are starting to be supported. They could do with plenty of them as they are a good idea and people are getting a hang of them. There isn't the smell about them as there used to be back in the day.”
Runner-up Innamorare was claimed, by trainer Gavin Cromwell, for E17,000.
