Jockey Fergal Lynch partnered his first winner in the United Kingdom in five years when steering Sassaway to win the concluding Nokia Lumia Handicap at Down Royal today for trainer Eamonn O'Connell.
Lynch lost his jockeys' license in high profile circumstances in 2008 and while he is now a regular on the Irish circuit, hasn't ridden in Britain since then. Today's win was his first in Northern Ireland in that period.
Following the win trainer O'Connell stated “Sassaway is a strong mare and that's only her fifth run for us. She might run in another month and she'll probably run next at Tipperary.”
He added “I have three Flat horses and two have won and I've eight or nine jumpers for the winter.”
Sassaway carries the colours of the Liiimerick Syndicate whose members include Limerick hurlers Shane Dowling, Gavin O'Mahony and Seanie Tobin.
