Andrew Lynch completed a 55/1 double on the afternoon at Thurles when making virtually all aboard Mick The Jiver in the Clonoulty Handicap Hurdle.
The Eoghan O’Grady-trained 6/1 chance was strongly pressed by Vic Approach when that rival fell at the final hurdle hampering Hannah’s Lane.
The six-year-old grey was driven right out by Lynch to prevail by a diminishing head from Sarah Battle whose rider Ray Cody was hindered by a slipped saddle.
Varene de Vauzelle was three and three quarter lengths back in third, with Hannah’s Lane in fourth.
Lynch, third in the jump jockeys championship on 55 winners, had even greater fortune on his side earlier on the card when Kansas City Chief (7/1) took full advantage of the last fence fall of leader Hurricane Darwin in the 2m6f beginners’ chase.
The 4/1 favourite Candle Island was never really involved after a bad mistake early on, and was eventually pulled up before four out.
