Alpine Cobra provided the locals with some cheer as he triumphed in the concluding Twilight Racing 2018 INH Flat Race at Greenmount Park for Limerick men Charles Byrnes and Ray Barron.
On outing number three the Scorpion gelding upstaged the Willie Mullins pair Small Farm (8/1) and Southern Nights (9/10 favourite) by three lengths and four and a quarter lengths.
Byrnes' charge went off a 6/1 chance, in a race where he also sent out sixth home, Our Marvmichael (12/1).
"He's had two decent runs and 2m3f seemed to suit him well today. He could be kept going for the first half of the summer anyway. He's by Scorpion and would go on slightly better ground," said Byrnes.
"He'll go jumping now, and is a fine scopey size so he'll jump a fence in time."
The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Alpine Cobra trained by C.Byrnes was noted to have pulled his off fore shoe post race.
