Liebermann Surprise
A Dermot Weld maiden winner at 14/1 isn't a common occurrence, but Liebermann put a never better than mid-division first outing behind him, getting to the front a furlong and a half out in the Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Maiden, going on to account for Scandal Sheet by one and three parts of a length.
The Pat Smullen-ridden Lisselan Farms-owned colt paid a huge dividend of E43.50 on the Tote. Ballydoyle's Golden Sword was the eye-catcher of the contest, finishing back in third. Tarankali the strongly backed even money favourite, could manage only fifth. (EM)
