Billy Lee certainly made the most of his opportunity with Wayne Lordan on the sidelines with a ban. He completed the first treble of his career when Overland Express took the finale on Cork's card, the Corkracecourse.ie Maiden. That success also brought up a double for the Tommy Stack yard, earlier on the mark with Cape Of Approval
Lee rode the first winner, Remember You (David Wachman), he was on the other Stack victor too, Cape Of Approval, but it looked like he might have to settle for the runner-up spot on Overland Express, in the final quarter mile.
The Pat Smullen-ridden favourite, Lake District was making the best of his way home at that stage but Lee got Overland Express up close home to triumph by half a length. Ebadani (13/2 into 7/2) was gambled-on here and he was doing his best work at the finish, eventually coming home in fourth place.
'Fozzy' Stack explained: "She didn't handle the track the last day at Wexford (fifth when favourite there) and we'll step her up to stakes level now.
"Fair play to Billy (26yo his first ever treble)."
Lee himself remarked: "It's taken me a long time to ride a treble. Hopefully it won't be as long before the next one. I tracked the leader and she kept going well. We just got on top inside the final furlong." (AM & EM)
