Leahy and Foley win with Danequest
Trainer Augustine Leahy and jockey Shane Foley teamed up for their first victory together when Danequest took the one mile nursery at Gowran Park.
Foley popped his charge out smartly from the gate and they sat second behind pace-setter Outback ridden by Wayne Lordan.
Danequest (8/1) and Outback (4/1) fought out the spoils in the final furlong with Leahy’s gelding only just getting the better of David Wachman’s game colt by a head. Afraz trained by John Oxx came home well for third, a length away, at 8/1. Ger Lyons, who landed his first Group One with Lightening Pearl in the Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket today, supplied the 3/1 favourite Dark Passion who was fourth.
“He’ll probably run in another nursery, maybe in Dundalk,” trainer Augustine Leahy said.
“We bought him in the Goresbridge Sales and that’s the first horse the owner Eamonn Donovan from Waterford has had. It’s also Shane Foley’s first winner for me.”
