Trainer Arthur Moore will have gained plenty satisfaction winning the race named in his father's honour, the Dan Moore Memorial Handicap Chase at Punchestown today, with Lastoftheleaders who completed a double on the day for jockey Davy Russell.
The Champion Jockey, earlier successful on 25/1 chance Born In Fire but beaten on Don Cossack in the Grade 2 hurdle, was a notable booking on Moore's gelding, having been allowed 'off' his retained owner Gigginstown House Stud's Far Away So Close in the race.
Lastoftheleaders was returned 12/1 and benefited from Russell's move along the inner approaching the final fence. The pair stayed on well to defeat Alderwood by two and a quarter lengths.
Trainer Moore was in France but his son J.D. Moore later stated “obviously we're delighted to win this race and it's a lovely pot to win. Lastoftheleaders' owners have been very good and have stuck with him even though he's had a lot of niggly problems.”
