Balbriggan-based Damian English saddled his first winner as 25/1 chance Cash Or Casualty upset the gambled-on but unlucky Along Came Casey in the Arthur Guinness Handicap.

Ben Curtis' mount was always close to the pace and gained a decisive advantage when kicking clear off the bend, at which point the prominent Hollymount King ran out through the railing.

Pat Smullen was very fortunate not to be unseated when Along Came Casey was badly hampered in the early stages of the extended mile event, and the 6/4 favourite was fighting a losing battle to get back into the race.

However the Dermot Weld-trained filly stayed on valiantly in the straight to get within a length and a half at the line, with Night Singer (12/1) the same distance back in third.

English (25) said, “I only started training this year and thats my first winner. I was riding in point-to-points (without success) but was out for a year after getting a fall and decided to give training a go. All credit to Ben who gave him a peach of a ride. Nothing went right for him here on Monday but he ate up fine since and we decided to run him again.”
