Landmark success for trainer Geraghty
David Geraghty from Ardcath, Co. Meath saddled his first winner in Ireland when Goodbye Earl made all under Seamie Heffernan to cause a 20/1 shock in the www.dundalkstadium.com Handicap.
The three-year-old raced quite keenly for Heffernan at the head of affairs but found plenty when asked to go over a furlong out, staying on well to beat Trotting Weasel by two and a half lengths.
Geraghty said afterwards, "I trained a few winners in England in the 1990's, and took out a licence here earlier this year. She is the only one I have in training at present, and Seamie was brilliant at keeping her quiet going to the start to conserve her energy."
Heffernan added, “I was told to ride her to get the trip. David said she had plenty of ability but was not sure if she would get the six furlongs.”
