The Ken Condon trained Lady Imola did well to win the Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Fillies Maiden at Tramore today, managing her win despite looking uneasy on the tight track.
The daughter of Haafhd, which had run well behind some smart jump horses at Clonmel on her debut last month, tracked the leaders under jockey Bill Lee but needed to be niggled along for much of the final circuit. The winner did find top gear somewhere in the dip though, and stayed on well under pressure to score a half length win over Green Chorus
Condon later revealed “Lady Imola has an aversion to stalls so we are very limited where we can go with her.
“She was given a lovely patient ride on her debut and she stayed on well up the hill then but I'd say she wasn't mad about the track today though. There is plenty more to come with her and she has a very good attitude but as I said, we are very limited with where we can bring her.”
He added “she had serious injury problems in the past but John O'Connor (her owner and manager of Ballylinch Stud) was very patient with her and minded her well.”
