Lace shows heart of Gold
Gold Lace put her experience to good use when taking the opening two-year-old maiden at the Curragh this afternoon.
The daughter of Invincible Spirit was prominent throughout, under Fran Berry, and showed admiral heart in the closing stages. Cheerful Giver who was also up there, and Danziger formed a trio fighting it out inside the final furlong but Patrick Prendergast's filly found more close home.
She got home by a neck from Danziger with Cheerful Giver the same distance back in third.
The winner was the only runner with form, having finished fourth in the opening juvenile race of the season here two weeks ago.
"I fancied her first time but she ran green, She worked well last week so I decided to enter her again for this," said Prendergast.
"I thought she was beaten inside the final furlong but she kept at it. She could go for the (Listed) Marble Hill (Curragh 21st May) next if she's not sold."
