Dick Brabazon sent out his first winner of the year when Korbous recorded a 20/1 shock victory on his debut under Seamie Heffernan in the seven furlongs maiden.
The 8/13 favourite That Boy David made the running under Johnny Murtagh and, after shrugging off the persistent challenge of chief market rival Caonach inside the final furlong, was just foiled close home.
Heffernan switched his mount to the far rail, and took advantage of a gap inside the hot-favourite to get up for a neck verdict. Caonach (2/1) was another two lengths back in third.
Brabazon said, “I couldn’t believe how well he’s been working at home, and I told Seamie he wasn’t a no-hoper!
“He’s a lovely laidback horse, and we just wondered how he’d pull together today as he’d been working nice and free at home. He found an extra bit under pressure.
“It will be hard to place him now after winning first time out.”
