Kings Halo (7/4f) won under an enterprising Danny Mullins-ride at Naas today, making all to land the opening Clinton Higgins Chartered Accountants Novice Handicap Chase and provide trainer James Dullea with consecutive winners.
Mullins had steered the nine-year-old to two wins and two runner-up placings on recent runs and today elected to make the running at a brisk pace, seeing off all rivals and staying strongly to beat runner-up Cayd Boy by 18 lengths.
Bandon-based Dullea, whose Rusheen was a Fairyhouse Wednesday winner, reported “Danny was brilliant and got the fractions right on him. I thought he’d gone a tad quick early on, but he knew what he was doing. Our fella jumped and travelled.
“I came up here in hope rather than confidence but the drop back in trip didn’t make any difference to him and it was a good performance. He has plenty of options now with trips and he’ll get into better handicaps now.
“The lads (Kings Halo Partnership) are great owners and are all from West Cork so it’s great.”
