Hurdles, chases and flat sprints are hand in hand for jockey Daniel King at present and today he bagged Navan's Book Discounted Tickets Apprentice Handicap on Conversant (13/2), for this employer Denis Hogan.
Carrying the colours of the Choi Fook Racing Syndicate, King made the running from halfway on the son of Zebedee who despite edging left in the final furlong, held runner-up Linus Larrabee by half a length.
Riding the seven year old in a race for the first time, King had been familiar with Conversant from home work and said “the key to him is a bit of soft ground and he got that.
“He broke well, travelled well the whole way and it was nice to get his head in front. Last year he won on his first start of the year up here, so likes this track."
