Kayanna is a mare on the up
John Cahill, a Thomastown, Co. Kilkenny trainer has a mare on the up on his hands as Kayanna's Back gave him his fourth racecourse success by sluicing up in the www.punchestown.com Handicap Hurdle under Eddie O'Connell.
Her bid to follow-up a Clonmel success from early September could have come to an end with a very bad mistake at the last with a circuit to race. She may have come back to the field with that error but she went on again from two out to score by an easy five lengths.
Cahill commented: "I thought the handicapper went to town on her by giving her 16Ibs for Clonmel and I was worried about the ground for her today too. Eddie said it's gone a bit for her so she'll go out in a field now.
"Tony Holland from Stoneyford owns her and he is a very good owner. He is in business – he has a karting track.
"I bred this mare myself and I currently have four riding out. I do a bit of pre-training as well."
