Texas Katie stepped up on a couple of previous runs for Ray Hackett this year when taking the Michael Holland Tyres Handicap in game fashion at Roscommon.
The daughter of Clodovil, a maiden winner on the all-weather at Wolverhampton last season for Mick Channon, handled the soft ground well to score at odds of 14/1.
Emmet McNamara had her up with the pace throughout alongside well-backed 13/8 favourite Twist Of Magic and she responded gamely under pressure at the business end.
She held on in the closing stages to beat Camiyra and Ojinjintka by a neck and half a length, with the favourite dropping back to finish a head further away in fourth.
Hackett said, “That’s her third run for us and we are really only finding out about her now. She is leased till the end of the year and is a nicely bred filly.
“She can be a bit buzzy but if you keep the lid on her she will give you everything. She’s as honest as the day is long, and is really settling now which is great.
“She likes to be out in front and it worked out a treat today. Six or seven (furlongs) is her trip.”
