Review KILLARNEY 15th Jul
< Corlaan picked up a decent scalp as he recorded his first victory at the 16th attempt in the Killarney Waste Disposal Novices Chase.< Uncle Junior who had been highly tried over hurdles and was making his fencing debut, was sent off the 4-6 favourite to give Willie Mullins and Ruby Walsh a double.
The seven-year-old was never far away and had every chance when Corlaan (12-1) challenged for the lead approaching the second-last, but he could not land a blow and went down by three-quarters of a length despite a late rush.
Sean McDermott did not have to be too hard on the Thomas O'Leary-trained winner, who was probably a bit better value than the margin of victory.
The lightly-raced Clear Gold followed up a Ballinrobe success by winning the McElligott's Landrover Handicap Chase for the Mullins yard.
Walsh was always travelling well on the 10-year-old, who avoided the early carnage and jumped into the lead two out.
The 7-2 shot had the race sewn up approaching the last, where the only worry was a loose horse, and once Clear Gold had avoided the danger he galloped on to beat Tarn Ridge by five and a half lengths.
But there was bad news for Paul Carberry, who suffered concussion in a fall from She's Supersonic at the first and was stood down for 21 days, so misses the Galway Festival.
Iggy Madden turned out Max Time just two days after the veteran ran a fair fourth at Sligo and it paid off in the www.punchestown.com Handicap Hurdle.
Walsh made most of the running on favourite Alkar in the two-and-three-quarter-mile stamina test, but Max Time loomed up menacingly approaching the fourth-last and the writing was soon on the wall.
Johnny Allen's mount (7-1) took the third-last with a three-length advantage and though Bru Na Si set off in pursuit, he was never able to challenge and there were three and a half lengths in it at the line.
Tommy Stack's Cassique Lady (9-4) stepped up on her debut success to win the John Buckley Auctioneers Killarney Race.
