Jumping the key for Protaras

Protaras runner-up on his chasing debut at Galway last month, went one better under Paul Carberry in an incident-packed Gowran Park Racing Club 2013 Beginners Chase.
Former Galway Hurdle winner Moon Dice was making his debut over fences in this two and a quarter mile race but fell at the third, while Lord Ben was still in front when blundering and unseating Davy Russell three out.
Protaras (14/1) was left in front at this point, while well-backed 9/4 favourite Nearest The Pin was close-up when slightly hampered.
The "jolly" was also inconvenienced by a mistake at the next, and was eventually beaten two and a half lengths. Jetson (4/1) completed the placings another four and a half lengths adrift in third.
Carberry said, "He jumps very well. I may have been better off being a bit handier but, the way he jumps, he was going to get there.
"He could have done with a lead as he was a bit leary in front."
