Wesley Joyce has been going from strength to strength since returning from serious injury late last month, with the Co Limerick pilot registering his first double when guiding Mickey The Steel to victory in the Colm Quinn BMW Handicap.
Twice successful in October of last year, the Joseph Murray-trained five-year-old was sent off the 11/8 favourite, after finishing a close-up fifth in the Joe McGrath Handicap at the Curragh on Saturday.
Always towards the head of affairs, the 82-rated bay travelled best to lead over two-furlongs out and kept on well when ridden in the closing stages, coming home three-and-three-parts of a length to the good.
Returned at 7/2 (from 7s), Transcendental filled the runner-up spot under Gary Carroll for Gavin Cromwell, while Takana (22/1 from 66s) was another two-and-a-half lengths back in third.
"That's 26 winners now and my first double. It's good to get that on the board," Joyce, who won the third on Mogwli commented.
"He loves that ground and he was just keeping going and going. He did it well."
