The persistent rain today proved welcome news for connections of Rattling Jewel who again showed his liking for the Curragh in the Hanlon Concrete Handicap.
The 14/1 chance was drawn high on the stands’ side and was never far off the pace under Killian Leonard leading about two furlongs out.
The Nicole McKenna-trained gelding kept on well under pressure inside the final furlong to beat the always prominent Peticoatgovernment by three quarters of a length.
There was a gap of two and a quarter lengths back to Rapid Applause in third, with Mr Right completing the places in fourth.
McKenna said, “He seems to love it here and likes a straight track. When I heard the rain was coming I was delighted.
“He’s been a good servant and gave me my first winner here last year and has been placed a few times. He’ll probably come back here at the Derby weekend.”
