The beginners chase at Naas looked a cracking contest on paper and it proved to be as Jenari at 9/2 stayed on stoutly to give Jessica Harrington a treble at Naas (82/1). Dylan Ross (7/2) looked the likely winner, even taking into consideration a blunder at the second last, as he was on the bridle again jumping the last in the lead.
However, he didn’t find a lot heading for the winning post and Robbie Power secured a double for the day as Jenari answered his call to forge on and win by a length and a quarter. Mount Benbulben the 6/4 favourite, completed the placings in third, beaten a total of five and a quarter lengths.
Frank Berry, racing manager to owner JP McManus, said: “That was grand first time. He popped away grand. We’ll look for a winners of one somewhere.
“He handled conditions well and we’ll stick to two miles for the time being.”
Jenari was last seen in the Grade 1 two and a half mile hurdle at the Punchestown Festival when falling three out while still in contention. He was a Grade 2 winner over hurdles and looks to be a good recruit to the chasing game.
Harrington's other two winners at Naas today were Maller Tree and Jezki
