James has his first double - at Wexford
Sam James achieved the first double of his career when Cristal Island added to his earlier success on The Buck in the Rosslare Handicap. The brace rewarded backers of the young Welsh-native at odds of 57 and a half to one.
Here riding for Tom Mullins, Kevin Prendergast's apprentice got to the front on the victorious Trans Island filly inside the final furlong and she had a length to spare over Star Links at the line.
Mullins commented: "She had problems all last year and maybe she still has them but she's won now anyway. The handicapper was kind to her as she came down in the ratings.
"Hopefully she'll keep coming back to what she was."
This was James' seventh winner of the season and his thirteenth in all.
Cristal Island's only previous win came at the Galway Festival in 2008 when she formed part of a treble for Danny Mullins.
