Philip Dempsey’s Jacksonslady got up close home in a bunch finish to the Latin Quarter Chase under Barry Geraghty. Butney Rock a 33/1 outsider, jumped into the lead at the last under Noel McParlan but it is a long way home up the hill from there. He was reeled in close home by Jacksonslady (3/1) who just prevailed by a head from Cailin Annamh (4/1) who stormed home down the outside. Butney Rock ran a fine race at 33/1 in third.
Barry Geraghty said: “She battled well and jumped nicely throughout the race. I didn’t want to get there too soon. It was a good race. She ran a good race in the Plate last year. She deserved a good pot. I’m delighted for Philip and JP. It is Philip’s first horse for JP. I had a nice run round.”
Philip Dempsey said: “She’s tough and she loves a battle. She battled the whole way, but I felt we were mugged on the line. Barry was brilliant on her. He sat in the dip when others might have gone wide and he knows her well.
“She didn’t get her ground last year and conditions suited in this race. We were initially aiming her at the Plate. She’s second reserve for that tomorrow. We’ll see how she is, she’s a tough mare.
“She’s in again at the end of the week in a two mile one handicap. She has plenty of pace. She was just touched off a couple of times on the flat.”
Jacksonslady was backed down from 6/1 this morning. This was a quick double for owner JP McManus. Domination the 7/4 favourite, finished in fifth in the group just behind the first three home. He was beaten just over three and a half lengths. Just before the off a bet of 20,000 euro on the favourite was recorded in the betting ring at 2/1.
R.C. Colgan, rider of Armaramak trained by S.J.Mahon, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount was pulled up having burst a blood vessel. This was confirmed by the Turf Club Veterinary Officer. D.N. Russell, rider of Domination trained by C.Byrnes, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount never jumped throughout this race.
