In-form Bell gets gambled-on Cuba home
Samantha Bell from Antrim carried over her good form from Limerick last night (won there on Goldplated) to register her third success in the plate when scoring aboard the gambled-on Spirit Of Cuba (6/1 into 5/2) in the Louis Roederer Handicap at Down Royal.
The Kevin Prendergast-trained three-year-old daughter of Invincible Spirit may have been one of the younger participants in the field but that didn't stop her from powering through the last furlong to comfortably keep the well-fancied Glamorous at bay.
Fabian Burke, representing winning trainer Kevin Prendergast said: "We weren't sure about the ground as most of her form was on good ground.
"We were confident she'd handle it though and Samantha is good value for her 10Ib claim. That told in the last furlong."
