Jack Davison reached a career high when Mooneista landed the Listed Anglesey Lodge Equine Hospital Woodlands Stakes at Naas.
It didn’t look easy for the three-year-old filly pre-race, but with Wayne Lordan in the plate for the first time the 17/2 shot (supported in from double figures earlier) made light of the task at hand.
Mooneista chased the leaders, and she was pushed along in fourth two furlongs out.
Ridden in third a furlong out, Lordan’s mount improved to lead inside the final furlong, staying on well close home to beat Harry’s Bar by three parts of a length. Back To Brussels finished well for third, half a length back.
“Her dam beat her daddy in this race and they have now produced the winner,” said Davison.
“I’ve always thought a lot of this filly — she’s electric. She’s unbelievably determined and resolute, a great mind and a great appetite for it.
“We’ll think big and she’s in the Commonwealth Cup — we’re going to go that route.
“That’s the biggest win of my career and with a home-bred so it’s a big one. Hopefully we’ll get a few more of that calibre.
“It’s a shame my parents can’t be here but we’ll do some celebrating tonight.”
Moon Unit beat Dandy Man by a length here in the Woodlands Stakes in 2006.
