The Crowne Plaza Hotel Race & Stay Handicap (div 2) at Dundalk this evening was turned into a procession by the Matty Tynan trained seven year old mare Maontri (4/1jf), who was gaining a first career win at the ripe old age of seven.
Ridden by Colin Keane, the daughter of Catcher In The Rye stayed on strongly in the home straight to record one of the bigger winning margins for a Dundalk handicap: seven and a half lengths over runner-up Busalla
Tynan, based in Moyglass, Co Tipperary, also bred and owns the winner and later stated “she has been difficult to train and has been on and off. She is seven now and it's been a long time to wait since she was a two year old! She did it very well and hopefully the handicapper wont be too hard on her.”
Maontri made her belated racecourse debut as a five year old in November 2012 and was having just her sixth start today.
