Hazarafa gets Berry off mark in Oxx job
Tacky seemed to be the general consensus of the riders after the first race about the state of the ground but Hazarafa made light of the conditions to comfortably take the Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Fillies Maiden.
The Aga Khan-owned grey quickened clear from over two furlongs out and went on to beat Awe Inspiring by four and a half lengths in good style.
Fran Berry was riding his first winner as John Oxx's stable jockey. The trainer commented: "I thought she'd do better as a two-year-old and I wasn't expecting her to win.
"Her dam (Hazariya) was good and this is her first foal. She goes on soft ground better than I expected (her two previous runs were on the all-weather at Dundalk) and she'll go now for the Salsabil Stakes at Navan (on April 25th)."
