Chris Hayes bagged his third winner in two days at Tipperary today as he steered the Kevin Prendergast trained Muntahez to win the Costello's Tavern Handicap from a wide draw in 17.
The son of Camacho showed gradual progression on his runs this year and today arrived with a perfectly timed challenge, coming from off the pace from his wide draw, to lead near the line and beat Imposing Supreme by a head.
Afterwards Hayes, who recorded a double at Bellewstown yesterday, said "I rang the boss and I thought the ground was riding very quick and he had a very bad draw so he said 'I'll leave it to you, he's in at the Sales next week and we'll do what we can with what we have'.
"I thought last week at Ballinrobe that he travelled like the winner and he travelled nearly too well and got there too soon so the draw helped me today and I took him back and rode him cold. He does think about it a little bit but was game and battled it out well and the visor has made a different horse of him since we put it on."
