Modista (13/2 into 9/2) was a well-supported favourite for the L.M. Carey & Company Handicap at Listowel and she delivered under man of the moment Chris Hayes.
In the familiar silks of owner/breeder Norman Ormiston, Hayes brought home the Holy Roman Emperor filly by three and a half lengths from Windsor Queen
Hayes said of the Kevin Prendergast-trained three-year-old: "She had a good run the last day but the ground probably wasn't soft enough.
"She's smart on soft and I even knew cantering to the start today that she was loving the ground.
"We thought she was very harshly treated for winning a Sligo maiden but she was freshened up and hopefully she can win again.
"She's a nice filly. Everything went to plan from the get go. It was my first time to sit on her.
"Lovely Listowel again – it's good to get another winner down here and great to get one for the boss.
"Everything this week, relatively, has gone to plan. A couple have got away – slipped through the net – I expected a few more during the week but I'd suppose when you get three (winners) it isn't bad." (TW & EM)
