Paddy Twomey is maintaining a very impressive strike-rate with his runners and the Golden based trainer sent out a local winner at Tipperary today as his Sunday Sweet landed the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Median Auction Maiden under jockey Bill Lee.
Jockey Lee, who was earlier successful on the Willie McCreery trained Jungle Jane chased the leaders on the daughter of Elzaam who moved past leader Lough Swilly Pearl in the home straight before eventually staying on well to beat that 200/1 outsider into second.
Twomey was notching his third winner, from nine runners, post-lockdown and in total, this was his 33rd flat winner from 131 runners, meaning he has a 25% strike-rate since taking out his license in 2012.
Afterwards Twomey said “I felt she was weak last year and I said to the owner the best thing to do was leave her alone until this year and I think she'll make a lovely three year old.
“She was in the 1,000 Guineas until the five day stage and it wasn't by accident; she has Group entries and we'll see how she comes out of this and we'll take our time with her. I think she is Group class.”
