Group 3 winner for Mikey Sheehy

Jockey Mikey Sheehy, who recently rode out his claim, had a notable Group 3 winner when Lumiere Rock (11/1) landed the Staffordstown Stud Stakes.
A three-race maiden coming into this, the Joseph O'Brien-trained daughter of Saxon Warrior made all and Sheehy was able to get a breather into her on the home turn. Speirling Beag moved upsides with a quarter of a mile to race but the winner shrugged off that one’s challenge inside the final furlong and stayed on well to score by a length and a half from Gozen who relegated Speirling Beag to third place.
Sheehy said: “She’s done it well. I’ve ridden her on all three previous starts and the last day we went steady and she just lacks that bit of a gear.
“Today I was able to make the running and dictate the pace. I kept building it from the four and in fairness to her, every time a horse joined me she kept finding more.
“Hopefully she is a nice filly going forward and it’s great to get blacktype for her.
“That’s my first Group winner. I’m delighted to get it and massive thanks to Joseph for the opportunities he gives me.
“I lost my claim here in the Cambridgeshire so things are going good and long may it continue.”
