The upturn in the fortunes of the Eoin Griffin string continued when Realt Den Chathair landed the first division of Tipp FM Family Raceday Handicap Hurdle at Clonmel.
Eddie O'Connell rode Realt Den Chathair and he got up to short-head Playtime Ben
Griffin commented: "My horses have been waiting for that ground and my owners have been patient to wait.
"I was looking for a two and a half mile novice hurdle for him as three miles is a bit far for him. His jumping would want to improve. He will stick to handicap hurdle company probably around 2m 4f to 2m 6f. He is not overly big."
The Stewards interviewed R.P. Treacy, rider of Flamenco Prince GB), concerning his use of the whip in the straight.
Evidence was heard from the rider who admitted using his whip while out of contention.
Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that R.P.Treacy was in breach of R10(3)(b) by continuously hitting his mount after its chance of winning or being placed was clearly gone. Having taken his recent record into consideration the Stewards suspended R.P. Treacy for 10 racedays.
The Stewards requested a report from Mr D.E. Fitzgerald, trainer, concerning the apparent improvement in form of his charge Playtime Ben, placed second, compared with his previous run at Gowran Park 23rd September when the horse was beaten 40 lengths when finishing 17th behind the winner Norther Bay(FR).
Mr Fitzgerald reported that his charge was keen in running at Gowran Park after the runners had been called back following a false start and this combined with the minimum trip of 2 miles led to the poor run whereas today the extended trip of 3 miles combined with the fact that he settled better contributed to the improved run.
Having considered the report the Stewards noted it’s content. Zaralabad was reported to have pulled up very lame meanwhile Bacher Boy scoped normal post race.
