Green Glory showed off his engine when winning the bumper at Punchestown on his second start.

The five-year-old gelding had flashed promise when he made up a lot of ground for sixth on debut in a bumper at Naas in March.

He drifted out to 25/1 today but belied those odds by making good headway approaching the home bend.

His challenge saw him head O'moore Park in the final couple of furlongs and he was ridden clear at the furlong pole by Ray Barron.

He veered markedly left throughout the final furlong giving away plenty of ground to the pursuers but was still three and a quarter lengths clear at the line. Passing Well was heavily punted during the day before drifting out to 10/1 and was best of the rest in second. O'moore Park (3/1) dropped to third. His stablemate, Don Chalant 9/4f, was out of the places in fourth.

Trainer Charles Byrnes said: “They are a lucky bunch of owners (Come Home Sober Syndicate).

“He had a nice first run and was still very green. He had one or two niggly problems and that is why he didn’t come out till now.

“I thought he would be in the first three but couldn’t say he was going to win."
