The Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden for the three-year-olds at Dundalk saw a first Irish winner for jockey Eddy Greatrex on his boss Joseph O’Brien’s Lord Mczie

A twin brother of fellow jockey Tom, sons of Lambourn trainer Warren, Greatrex got Lord Mczie home by a length from favourite Ecclesiastical

The market-leader was unfortunate as he was bumped and impeded at the start and was on the back-foot thereafter, though ultimately having every chance.

“It's good to get off the mark, to be honest I was getting a little bit impatient,” said Greatrex.

“He ground it out well and I was pleased with him. I almost got there too soon but the race fell apart slightly and I was sort of left there.

“He didn't look around, was as straight as a die and toughed it out for me.

“I'd say he's a five furlong horse, he's not overly big but very well built and has bags of speed.

“He obviously flopped the last day but as long as he can build on this I think he's going to be a nice horse to follow.”

The Stewards interviewed E. Greatrex, rider of Lord Mczie, concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were of the opinion that E. Greatrex was in breach of R10(3)(g) by using his whip with excessive frequency. Having taken his previous record into consideration, the Stewards suspended E. Greatrex for 2 racedays.

Having taken his previous record into consideration, the Stewards suspended A.J. Farragher for 2 racedays.
