Greatest Drama (11/4) defeated 11/8 favourite Mint Candy by a nose in Gowran's opening Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Maiden today, scoring for trainer Johnny Murtagh, jockey Ben Coen and owners Barnane Stud.
The once-raced winning daughter of Night Of Thunder appeared to have the measure of Mint Candy with a furlong to race but both fillies battled well, with the narrowest margin separating the pair at the line.
Afterwards Murtagh reported “she worked well during the week, so we thought coming here she had a chance. She was after having a good run against the colts and that looked a very good race, so we were coming here with a bit of confidence.”
He added “Ben said she’s still a bit green, is still learning on the job and hopefully there is a bit more to come. I’ll have a chat with the owners and she should be able to do one more this year.
“It was a good battle to the line, and she should have learned plenty today. I’m delighted for the owners who have supported us over the last couple of years.”
