Jockey Liam Quinlan brought up a double at Gowran, winning the finale, the Pat Carroll's Pub Kilkenny Mares Handicap Hurdle aboard the Declan Queally-trained favourite Intersky Sunset
The Tipperary man's only other ride on the card, Lucid Dreams won the handicap chase for the John Ryan yard. He did pick up a 3-day whip ban there.
Twice successful in the point-to-point fields, Intersky Sunset faced a determined rival in runner-up, Ella Rose (66s into 40s), but she eventually yielded with the winner staying on best in the closing stages to prevail by two and a quarter lengths.
“Liam gave her a grand ride. I thought coming here that her mark was reasonable so it worked out nice. She missed the last a little but stays on well," said Queally.
“She’s in again on Tuesday and Thursday so we’ll see how she is. She might take her chance at Punchestown on Thursday but we’ll see what the handicapper is going to do with her.
“She jumps well and is a nice quite mare that does things right so happy out.”
The Raceday Stewards fined Adrian Sexton, trainer €65 for fitting what appeared to be a hood to Essential Part which had not been declared and ordered it’s removal.
The Raceday Stewards interviewed Kevin A Murphy, rider of Some Joke trained by C.Byrnes, concerning the fact he did not pull his mount up. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned who that accepted he should have pulled his mount up. Having viewed the recording and considered the evidence, the Raceday Stewards found him in breach of Rule 216(ii)(B)( for falling to pull up) and having considered his record in this regard they suspended him for 2 racedays.
