Getoutwhenyoucan bounced back his best to win the Micheal O’Murchadha Memorial Rated Hurdle under Jody McGarvey for Austin Leahy and owner JP McManus.
A four time winner for Charlie Swan back in 2014, the seven-year-old son of Beneficial had been out of form of late and was last seen finishing tenth to Rathpatrick at Punchestown in January.
Sent off a 7/1 chance today and wearing cheekpieces for the first time he raced mainly in third before hitting the front as they turned into the straight.
He was ridden away from the second last and kept up the gallop from there, going on to score by a length and a quarter. Prickly (11/2) kept on well from rear to finish second under Stephen Gray for Edward O’Grady, while Pivot Bridge fell at the second last when still in contention. Champagne James was sent off the 7/4 favourite and he finished third under Shane Shortall for Ted Walsh.
Austin Leahy, who recently celebrated his 69th birthday, said afterwards: "The first time cheekpieces helped to sharpen him and he travelled well.
"I don't what the plan is, maybe another one of those. There is a slightly possibility he might go back over fences.
"He was a good horse a few years ago, going from 90 to 129 in the handicap."
