Ghareer (nearside) battled back to beat Forty Foot Tom at Gowran with Owennacurra Milan in 3rd

Much Acclaimed did Waterford handler John Morrison proud with four wins last year and another former cross-channel flat racer, Ghareer gained his second success for the Tallow trainer when gamely seeing it out best under Paddy Mangan in the www.gowranpark.ie Handicap Hurdle. Forty Foot Tom (12/1), put up by three tipsters in the Irish Field Weekend Nap Table, looked like a winner when jumping into the mix two out. However Ghareer proved to be a gritty battler and he eventually clung on to prevail by half a length. Well-backed favourite Owennacurra Milan (6s this morning into 3s) had to settle for third, three and a quarter lengths back.
Paddy Mangan said: "We thought the ground would be against him as he'd prefer nicer ground. He was genuine enough to stay going though." Jim Will Fix It was reported to have scoped badly post race and Cavite Beta to have hung in running. (DM & EM)
