The heavily backed Galileo's Choice (2/1 in the morning into 8/11f) easily landed the opening Listowel Printing Works Maiden at Listowel today, scoring by eight lengths for trainer Dermot Weld and jockey Pat Smullen.

The son of Galileo tracked the leaders, moved through to lead three furlong out, before stretching clear in the straight for an easy win over Born To Excel

Weld was absent but Smullen did report “that was a good performance but it was a weak race - his two previous runs entitled him to win today.”

He added “he had a break and was gelded since he ran last and is maturing all the time.”
